HOW IT ALL BEGAN...
Burlington Permaculture was founded in 2007 by friends and Permaculture activists Mark Krawcyzk (left) (RivenWoodCrafts.com and KeylineVermont.com) and Michael Blazewicz (RoundRiverDesign.com). Mark and Mike (along with inspiration from friends Keith Morris and Chris Chaisson) set out to connect with like-minded individuals in their neighborhoods and social circles, and began to organize and build connections between people, land, and resources.
Early meetings at coffee-shops and Mike's living room inspired the articulation of the group's mission and vision, sparking the group's first projects including assistance with the development of the Archibald Neighborhood Garden, lawn to garden conversions in the Old North End, seasonal workshop series, and working with interns from the University of Vermont.
SINCE THEN...
After years of operating Burlington Permaculture as a grassroots community organization, Mark moved on to pursue the development of his own agroforestry homestead in New Haven, VT. in 2017, Mark and Rowan Cignoni (below left) (NewTraditionsDesign.com) began talks of re-booting the organization as Burlington Permaculture 2.0. Since then, Burlington Permaculture has had many individuals teaming up to move and shape the organization, hosting fresh new workshops on modern issues facing the Greater Burlington Area, and facilitated community-directed designs within the city limits.
